Magic E Lesson Description + Activities (OG-Aligned)Lesson Overview

The Magic E (also called Silent E or VCe) is one of the most powerful early decoding patterns.
This lesson teaches students how adding e to the end of a short vowel word changes the vowel from its short sound to its long sound (cap → cape, hop → hope).

Students learn:

  • how vowel sounds change with Magic E
  • how to decode VCe words accurately and automatically
  • how to build and manipulate words to see the pattern in action
  • how Magic E supports spelling, reading fluency, and vocabulary growth

This lesson is multisensory, structured, and follows a clear Orton-Gillingham sequence.
